What the Business Opportunity Creation Instructions Are

The Business Opportunity Creation Instructions is a standardized document that guides internal and external parties through proposing, documenting, and approving new business opportunities. It identifies the proposing party, opportunity description, estimated value, required resources, critical milestones, risk factors, and decision criteria. Organizations use it to ensure consistent intake, enable transparent review, and create a documented record for approvals. When completed correctly it supports auditability, regulatory compliance where applicable, and clearer handoffs between sales, legal, finance, and operations teams.

Why a Standardized Instruction Matters

Use the Business Opportunity Creation Instructions to standardize opportunity intake, document approvals, and record retention. Proper execution supports enforceability under the ESIGN Act and UETA for electronic records, preserves audit trails, and reduces disputes by capturing intent, authorization, and key decision criteria.

  • Finance, legal, and executive approvers assessing risk, revenue potential, and compliance implications.

The document helps formalize approval paths, assign decision owners, and preserve a searchable record for audits and retrospective analyses.
