What the Business People Form Is and when it's used

The Business People Form collects identifying and role-based information for individuals associated with a company — owners, officers, managers, and authorized representatives. Typical uses include corporate records, banking and vendor onboarding, Know-Your-Customer (KYC) checks, regulatory disclosures, and internal personnel files. The form can be completed on paper or electronically; when executed electronically it must meet the ESIGN Act (15 U.S.C. §7001) and applicable state UETA rules to be enforceable. Accurate entries support compliance, tax reporting, and downstream filings.

Why this form matters for compliance and recordkeeping

A consistent Business People Form reduces administrative friction and creates a single source of truth for signatory authority, ownership percentages, and contact details. Properly completed forms support banking KYC, tax reporting, and internal audit trails.

Common mistakes to avoid when preparing the form

  • Failing to total or reconcile ownership percentages may trigger additional documentation requests from banks, investors, or tax authorities and delay processing.
  • Applying unclear authority language or omitting dates undermines the ability to determine when signing authority began and can complicate audits.
  • Omitting required supporting documents such as government ID, corporate resolutions, or proof of ownership often forces re-submission and creates gaps in the audit trail.
