What the Business Questions Document Is

A Business Questions Document is a structured questionnaire used to collect standardized information about a company, transaction, project, or vendor during onboarding, due diligence, or contract pre-qualification. It consolidates factual data such as legal name, tax identifiers, ownership, financial metrics, operational capabilities, regulatory exposures, and required attachments so reviewers can compare responses consistently. Typical uses include vendor selection, M&A screening, compliance checks, and customer onboarding. The document is not itself a contract but often becomes a record relied upon by legal, procurement, finance, and compliance teams.

Why a Standardized Questionnaire Matters

A clear Business Questions Document reduces ambiguity, speeds review, and creates an auditable record of submitted facts for legal and compliance teams.

Why a Standardized Questionnaire Matters

Who Typically Prepares or Completes This Document

Different organizational roles complete or request this questionnaire depending on intent and scope.

  • Procurement teams and sourcing managers use it to evaluate supplier fit and commercial terms during vendor selection.
  • Legal and compliance staff request it to capture regulatory disclosures, ownership data, and certificate attachments for risk review.
  • Sales or account teams collect responses from customers to enable contractual drafting, pricing, and service onboarding.

Use role-based routing so each section goes to the person best positioned to provide accurate answers.
