What Business Referral Terms Are and when you use them

Business Referral Terms is a written agreement used between companies or between a company and an individual to define the terms under which one party refers potential clients or customers to another. It specifies parties, referral fee or commission structure, payment timing, qualifying criteria for referrals, territory or channel limits, confidentiality obligations, and term and termination clauses. The document may also address compliance, attribution methods, dispute resolution, and tracking or reporting requirements. When executed properly it clarifies expectations and reduces disputes over compensation for introduced business.

Why clear referral terms matter for your business

Business Referral Terms protect both referrers and recipients by documenting compensation, qualification rules, and timelines. Clear terms reduce misunderstandings, support consistent tracking and payment, and provide contractual evidence for enforcement or audit purposes under commercial law.
