What the Business Service Options document covers

The Business Service Options is a standardized document used by organizations to list, compare, and authorize the specific services a business will provide or make available to a client, partner, or internal stakeholder. It typically identifies service tiers, deliverables, pricing or billing approach, implementation timelines, and any optional add-ons or governance terms. The form clarifies who is responsible for each service, defines expected service levels, and creates a record that supports procurement, contracting, and operational planning across departments and external vendors.

Why a clear Business Service Options matters

A concise Business Service Options document reduces ambiguity in scope, makes vendor or internal comparisons easier, and provides a written baseline for pricing, responsibilities, and acceptance criteria. It supports auditability and helps align procurement, legal, and operations teams on the services being requested or offered.

Why a clear Business Service Options matters

Who prepares and who reviews this document

Common authors include procurement managers, account executives, program managers, and product owners who need to present service choices or packaged offerings to decision-makers.

  • Procurement teams preparing vendor comparisons for sourcing decisions and contract negotiations.
  • Account managers presenting optional services and pricing to existing clients for upsell or renewal.
  • Operations and delivery leads who must confirm feasibility, SLAs, and resource commitments.

Final reviewers usually include finance for budget alignment, legal for contract language, and an authorized signatory to approve scope and pricing.

Essential parts of a professional Business Service Options form

A well-structured document groups options into clear sections—service description, pricing, assumptions, timelines, responsibilities, and approval—so stakeholders can compare alternatives and accept a specific option without ambiguity.

Service Description

Concise explanation of what the service includes and specific deliverables; tie each item to measurable outputs or acceptance criteria to avoid scope drift.

Pricing

List unit prices, one-time fees, subscription terms, and any conditional discounts. Specify billing cadence and whether taxes or pass-through costs apply.

Assumptions

Call out dependencies such as third-party access, customer-provided data, or client responsibilities that affect timelines or cost estimates.

Timeline

Provide start date, key milestones, and delivery windows. Note whether dates are estimates or binding commitments and any acceleration costs.

Service Levels

If applicable, define response and resolution times, uptime commitments, and measurement/reporting mechanisms for SLA verification.

Approval Block

Include signatory name, title, signature, and effective date so the selected option is legally documented and actionable.
