What the Business Services SRE Is and when it applies

The Business Services SRE is a structured service request and engagement record used to specify, authorize, and track business services, service-level expectations, deliverables, and payment terms. It documents scope, schedules, acceptance criteria, roles, and any required compliance or security controls. Organizations use an SRE to create a single source of truth for procurement, operations, and legal review so work can be started, monitored, invoiced, and archived according to agreed terms.

Why a formal SRE matters for business services

A clear Business Services SRE reduces ambiguity about responsibilities, timelines, and costs while supporting auditability and enforceability. When executed electronically under ESIGN (15 U.S.C. ch. 96) or an applicable UETA state law, the signed SRE is generally enforceable as a written agreement.

Why a formal SRE matters for business services

Who typically prepares and approves a Business Services SRE

Typical authors, reviewers, and approvers are procurement, IT or operations, finance, and in-house counsel depending on contract value and risk.

  • Procurement managers responsible for vendor selection and contract terms, ensuring budget and vendor qualification are met.
  • IT or operations staff who define technical requirements, SLAs, handover criteria, and acceptance tests before work begins.
  • Legal and finance reviewers who confirm liabilities, indemnities, payment terms, and regulatory clauses are included.

Signatory roles and routing depend on organizational thresholds; high-value SREs typically require executive authorization and cross-department sign-off.
