What the Business Services SST Is and Why It Exists

The Business Services SST is a standardized service statement used to describe scope, deliverables, pricing, timelines, and responsibilities between a service provider and a client. It consolidates the operational terms typically found in work orders, statements of work, and service agreements into a single, consistent form that supports approvals, invoicing, and contract management across departments.

Purpose and Legal Foundation of the Business Services SST

A clear SST reduces disputes by documenting expectations, measurement criteria, and change procedures. When completed and signed electronically in accordance with ESIGN (15 U.S.C. §7001) and state UETA statutes, it establishes a legally enforceable record for commercial transactions.

Purpose and Legal Foundation of the Business Services SST

Who Typically Prepares and Signs a Business Services SST

Teams that manage contracts, procurement, billing, or client services most often prepare and circulate SSTs.

  • Procurement and purchasing teams who need vendor scope and price confirmation.
  • Account managers and project leads who require measurable deliverables and milestones.
  • Finance or AP teams that need signed documentation to process invoices.

Many organizations distribute SSTs for signature via email or eSignature platforms to accelerate approvals and create an auditable record.
