What the Buyer Electric Consent Form Is and When It's Used

The Buyer Electric Consent Form is a written record used in real estate and utility transactions to document a buyer's permission for electric service transfer, meter access, account creation, or electrical work at a purchased property. It typically authorizes the utility or service provider to place service in the buyer's name, run final usage reads, release account history where permitted, and accept electronic communications and signatures. The form clarifies responsibility for billing, safety inspections, and access timing during closing or tenant move-in events.

Why this form matters for closing and service activation

A clear consent form reduces delays at closing, assigns billing responsibility promptly, documents authorization for inspections and access, and preserves evidence of agreement when electronic records and eSignatures are used under U.S. law.

  • Failing to indicate the exact activation date causes billing prorate disputes between seller and buyer.
  • Assuming eSign consent without following ESIGN consumer disclosure steps may render electronic consent legally weak.

Service Delay: Activation postponed
Billing Errors: Charges misapplied
Liability Dispute: Seller/buyer disagreements
