What a Case Study Proposal Agreement Is and When It Applies

A Case Study Proposal Agreement is a written contract that sets out the terms under which a client, customer, or partner permits the use of a specific engagement, project, or results as the basis for a case study. It typically defines the project scope, allowed disclosures, approval steps, attribution, confidentiality limits, compensation or incentives, and the time period for publication rights. The agreement clarifies who may speak on behalf of the client, how draft materials will be reviewed, and any conditions for redaction or anonymization. It is used to manage legal, commercial, and reputational risk when publishing customer stories.

Why this Agreement Matters for Publishers and Participants

A clear Case Study Proposal Agreement protects both parties by defining permitted disclosures, review rights, and publication timelines, reducing misunderstandings and litigation risk under contract and privacy law.

Why this Agreement Matters for Publishers and Participants

Who Typically Prepares and Signs This Agreement

Companies and agencies that collect customer success stories usually issue this agreement to formalize publication terms before creating marketing or research materials.

  • Marketing teams that need formal permission to quote or profile customers.
  • Legal or compliance officers who must control confidentiality and IP disclosures.
  • Client executives or product owners authorized to grant publicity rights.

Signers may include authorized client representatives, the vendor's marketing or legal contact, and, when necessary, an executive with delegation authority.
