What a Client Needs Declaration Is and When It’s Used

A Client Needs Declaration is a structured statement used to capture a client’s objectives, preferences, constraints, and essential facts at the start of a professional relationship. It formalizes the client’s stated requirements so advisors, service teams, or vendors can align deliverables, risk assessments, and timelines. For regulated contexts—financial advice, healthcare intake, or legal services—the declaration also documents disclosures, consent choices, and any special accommodations. Completed declarations create a clear record for project scoping, billing, compliance review, and dispute resolution.
