What the Community Friendship Bench document covers

The Community Friendship Bench is a local program agreement and installation request form used by neighborhood groups, municipal departments, and nonprofit partners to propose, authorize, and document the placement of a publicly accessible bench intended to encourage conversation and connection. The form captures site details, ownership and maintenance responsibilities, insurance and liability acknowledgements, community consent or endorsement, and any required permits or municipal approvals. It is structured so parties can record terms of installation, ongoing care, and removal, and it is suitable for electronic completion and signature under U.S. e-signature law when permitted.

Why this form matters for community projects

A clear Community Friendship Bench form reduces ambiguity about location, maintenance, and liability, and provides an auditable record of approvals and signatures for municipal review or insurance purposes.

Common errors that delay approval

  • Incomplete location descriptions that lack a street address or clear GPS coordinates, causing site misidentification and hold-ups.
  • Missing proof of insurance or insufficient coverage limits that prevent municipal acceptance for installations on public land.
