What the Construction Concrete Hard Dig document is

The Construction Concrete Hard Dig is a site-specific authorization and record used to document planned hard excavation and concrete-breaking activities on a construction project. It captures scope, location, start and end dates, responsible contractor, safety controls, utility clearances, and required permits so stakeholders and regulators can confirm compliance and manage risk. The form supports onsite inspections, insurance review, and lien waiver or change-order tracking. When completed and signed it creates an auditable record of consent and responsibilities for heavy excavation tasks and related concrete demolition.

Core sections every professional hard-dig form should include

Essential components ensure the Construction Concrete Hard Dig is complete, actionable, and defensible across contractors, owners, regulators, and project records.

Project Location

Scope of Work

Describe types of concrete removal, depth and width of excavation, equipment to be used, and any demolition sequence. Clear scope limits change-order disputes and informs safety planning and permit classifications.

Schedule

Contractor Info

Include licensed contractor name, license number, primary contact, and insurance coverage limits. Accurate contractor details are required for municipal permits and for verifying bonding and worker safety responsibilities.

Safety Controls

Common mistakes that delay hard-dig approvals

  • Incomplete site details such as missing parcel numbers or inaccurate addresses cause misrouted permits and delays in utility verification, often requiring resubmission and additional review time.
  • Vague scope descriptions like 'remove concrete' without dimensions or depths lead to disputes over extra work, unexpected costs, and unclear safety planning for shoring or excavation.
  • Failing to attach utility tickets, permits, or photos requires manual follow-up; missing evidence may trigger stop-work orders or increased insurance scrutiny during claims.
  • Using unsigned or improperly authorized signatures, or inconsistent signer names across documents, undermines enforceability and can delay inspections or contract payments.
