What the Construction Furnace Tie-in PAF Is

The Construction Furnace Tie-in PAF is a standardized permit authorization form used by contractors and site managers to request and document the connection of a replacement or new furnace to an existing HVAC, gas, or electrical system. It collects project identifiers, permit numbers, contractor licensure and insurance details, tie-in procedures, safety verifications, required shutoff and isolation steps, inspection scheduling, and a list of attached technical drawings. The form also records who will perform the work, applicable building-code references, and signature blocks for authorized parties and inspectors.

Core Sections You’ll Find on the PAF

Essential sections of the Construction Furnace Tie-in PAF ensure clear scope, safety verification, legal authorization, and traceable inspection scheduling across project stakeholders.

Project ID

Unique project identifier, address, permit number if issued, and contact for site. This ties the PAF to municipal records and simplifies cross-referencing during review and inspection scheduling.

Contractor Info

Legal business name, license numbers, qualifying individual, and insurer details. Include license expiration and a local contact phone number to speed verification by the authority having jurisdiction.

Equipment Details

Furnace make, model, serial number, fuel type, and BTU rating. Note modifications to flue, ductwork, or combustion air provisions that affect code compliance and inspection scope.

Tie-in Procedure

Stepwise description of the proposed connection, shutoff procedures, isolation points, pressure tests, and required safety measures. Clear procedures reduce re-inspection requests and ensure safe commissioning.

Inspections & Schedule

Requested inspection windows, contact availability, and preferred inspector. Provide contingency dates and note if expedited review is needed due to project sequencing.

Signatures

Signature blocks for contractor, property owner, and inspector with date fields. Signatures should match licensure and insurance names to avoid administrative holds.

Common Preparation Pitfalls

  • Submitting PAFs without manufacturer specs, diagrams, or insurance proof often triggers administrative hold and long processing delays while reviewers request missing items.
  • Contractor or owner names that do not match license or insurance documents cause verification failures and may require notarized affidavits or resubmission.
  • Providing unavailable inspection windows or incorrect effective dates leads to scheduling conflicts, missed inspections, and potential project downtime.
  • Vague tie-in procedures or unclear modifications to gas/electrical lines increase safety risk and frequently result in additional inspection requirements.

Consequences of Incorrect or Incomplete PAFs

Permit Denial: Application rejected until corrected
Fines: Municipal fines or civil penalties
Work Stoppage: Stop-work order pending remediation
Insurance Risk: Coverage denial for noncompliance
Liability: Increased contractor legal exposure
Inspection Fail: Failed inspection requires rework
