What the Credit Functionality Notice Template Is

The Credit Functionality Notice Template is a standardized disclosure and acknowledgment form used to describe how an organization uses credit-related features, decisioning logic, data sources, or automated scoring in consumer or commercial credit processes. It explains the scope of credit functionality, the data elements accessed or shared, any automated decisioning or profiling, contact points for questions or disputes, and the signature area for acknowledgement. The template is designed to be adaptable across lending, underwriting, collections, and internal credit-review workflows while preserving a clear audit trail for compliance and recordkeeping.

Why a Clear Notice Matters

Issuing a concise Credit Functionality Notice protects both parties by documenting disclosures, consent where required, and the exact scope of automated or manual credit actions. It reduces regulatory risk, supports transparency in consumer interactions, and creates a defensible record for audits and dispute resolution.

Why a Clear Notice Matters

Who Typically Prepares and Receives This Notice

Organizations involved in lending, credit servicing, or credit decisioning prepare the notice; recipients include consumers, business applicants, and internal compliance teams.

  • Lenders and servicers: Use the notice to disclose scoring models, data sources, and automated decisioning to applicants or account holders.
  • Compliance and legal teams: Maintain templates, review language for state-specific requirements, and log acknowledgements for audit trails.
  • Consumers and business applicants: Receive clear explanations of credit functionality, dispute contacts, and how automated decisions are made or appealed.

The template supports consistent delivery across channels (paper, email, electronic signature) and documents consent or receipt for later verification.
