What a Delivery Service Addendum Is and when it's used

A Delivery Service Addendum is a contract attachment that defines responsibilities, liability limits, insurance and performance standards specific to delivery services used by a business. It amends a primary agreement — for example a vendor contract, purchase order, or logistics services agreement — to add delivery-related provisions such as proof of delivery, carrier selection rules, packaging standards, insurance requirements, and indemnities. Organizations use this addendum to allocate risk, specify delivery SLAs, and require proof and documentation for claims, making operational and legal obligations explicit before shipment or service begins.

Why include a Delivery Service Addendum

A Delivery Service Addendum clarifies who bears risk for loss or damage, sets minimum insurance and indemnity terms, and establishes evidence standards for delivery and acceptance. It reduces disputes by documenting acceptable carriers, delivery windows, and required delivery records.

Why include a Delivery Service Addendum

Who typically completes and relies on this addendum

Use the addendum to make delivery obligations auditable and to speed claim resolution when loss, damage, or late delivery occurs.

  • Procurement teams ensuring supplier compliance with delivery terms and insurance requirements.
  • Logistics or operations managers who route shipments and monitor carrier performance.
  • Third-party carriers or subcontractors agreeing to specific service standards and indemnities.
