What the Donor Commitment Form Is and When It’s Used

A Donor Commitment Form documents a donor’s pledge to contribute funds, goods, or services to a nonprofit, campaign, educational institution, or similar organization. It records donor identity, pledge amount or description, payment schedule, any restrictions on use, and signature consent so the recipient can rely on the commitment for budgeting, grant reporting, or campaign planning. The form is not a tax return but often supports charitable contribution records; accuracy matters for acknowledgment letters, audit trails, and potential IRS substantiation of gifts.

Why a Clear Donor Commitment Form Matters

A well-structured form reduces donor confusion, improves financial forecasting, and creates a verifiable record for acknowledgments and audits under IRS rules. It also protects both parties by documenting any restrictions, payment timelines, and revocation conditions in writing.
