What the Equine Horse Transfer Form Is

The Equine Horse Transfer Form is a written document used to record the transfer of ownership, title, and associated responsibilities for a horse between parties. It documents identifying details such as the horse's registered name, microchip or brand, age, breed, sex, and markings, plus consideration paid, warranties, liens, and effective date. The form creates a clear chain of title, supports registration with breed registries or state agencies, and provides evidence for insurance, boarding, and transport. It can be executed on paper, with notarization, or electronically where permitted under ESIGN and UETA.

Why a Proper Equine Horse Transfer Form Matters

Using a completed Equine Horse Transfer Form reduces ownership disputes, clarifies liability for veterinary care and transport, documents payment and lien status, and supports insurance claims and breed registry updates. It provides a written record accepted in most transactional and legal contexts.

Title Dispute: Buyer may lose ownership rights
Lien Claims: Lender can repossess horse
