What the Feasibility Project Design Template Is

The Feasibility Project Design Template is a structured document used to evaluate whether a proposed project is viable, defining scope, schedule, budget, risks, and success criteria. It consolidates technical approach, stakeholder roles, preliminary cost estimates, and key assumptions so decision makers can assess feasibility before committing resources. The template supports consistent comparison across alternatives, enables clear handoffs between analysis and implementation, and is commonly used by project teams, sponsors, funders, and evaluators in both private and public sector projects.

Why Use a Standardized Feasibility Project Design Template

A standardized template reduces ambiguity, improves comparability across options, and documents material assumptions and constraints. It helps ensure legal and regulatory checkpoints are addressed early and makes it easier to collect approvals and signatures in compliance with ESIGN and applicable state electronic signature laws.

Why Use a Standardized Feasibility Project Design Template

Typical Users and Roles That Complete This Template

Who prepares and reviews the template depends on sector and project scale; common participants are listed below.

  • Project managers and coordinators responsible for drafting the plan and tracking changes
  • Technical leads or architects who define approach, constraints, and feasibility assumptions
  • Finance or budget analysts who prepare cost estimates and funding implications

Use this list to route draft review and sign-off to the appropriate stakeholders before finalizing.

Core Sections Every Professional Template Should Include

A complete feasibility template organizes the analysis into discrete, actionable sections so reviewers can quickly evaluate viability and risks.

Executive Summary

One-page synopsis of purpose, recommended option, high-level cost, and primary risks to allow decision makers to act quickly.

Scope and Objectives

Clear definition of project boundaries, deliverables, success criteria, and exclusions so expectations are unambiguous during approval and execution.

Methodology

Description of analysis methods, data sources, assumptions, and acceptance thresholds used to measure technical and economic feasibility.

Schedule

Preliminary timeline and milestones showing major phases, dependencies, and the estimated duration for decision points and deliverables.

Budget Estimate

Line-item cost summary with capital, operating, contingency, and a note on funding source assumptions for transparency.

Risk Assessment

Identifies critical risks, mitigation measures, and residual impacts with likelihood and consequence ratings to guide prioritization.

Step-by-Step: Complete and Finalize the Template

Follow these ordered steps to prepare, review, sign, and archive a finalized feasibility project design document.

  • 01
Collect inputs: Gather technical data, cost estimates, and stakeholder requirements.
  • 02
Draft sections: Populate scope, methodology, schedule, budget, and risk analysis.
  • 03
Internal review: Circulate to technical, legal, and financial reviewers for comments.
  • 04
Sign and distribute: Obtain authorized signatures and share the executed document with stakeholders.

Customize the Template Workflow for Online Completion

Configure a repeatable workflow to assign fields, set authentication, and route the document for review and signature.

Field Configuration
Assigned Signer Specify role-based email addresses or signer groups
Authentication Choose email link, SMS code, or knowledge-based verification
Conditional Fields Show or hide budget items based on selected funding type
Completion Actions Auto-send PDF and audit trail to stakeholders

Where to Send and How to Route the Completed Template

The final document should be routed to reviewers, approvers, and the project archive in a defined order to maintain auditability.

  • Internal Review: Send to technical leads and finance for clearance.
  • Executive Approval: Route to sponsor or steering committee for sign-off.
  • External Stakeholders: Provide copies to funders, regulators, or partners as required.
  • Archival Storage: Store executed copy in the project document repository.

Digital Signing, File Formats, and Integration Needs

Choose a platform that supports standard formats, audit trails, and your required signer authentication level.

  • File Formats: PDF, DOCX, and optionally HTML are commonly supported.
  • Integrations: Salesforce, NetSuite, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 supported
  • Authentication: Email link, SMS code, or advanced 2FA options

Real-World Examples of Template Use

These concise case examples show how teams used a feasibility template to speed decisions and ensure compliance during project initiation.

Martin Properties — Real Estate

A regional developer used the template to consolidate site data and financing options into one decision packet.

  • The team standardized budget contingencies at 10%.
  • The result was a single, auditable package that the sponsor approved within 14 days, eliminating weeks of back-and-forth and aligning lenders, planners, and construction schedules.

Fertility Centers of Illinois — Healthcare

A medical group used the template to evaluate a facility expansion and record PHI handling assumptions.

  • They attached a HIPAA BAA and patient consent checklist.
  • Final approvals included privacy counsel sign-off and an executed BAA, enabling compliant procurement and rapid vendor onboarding without rework.

Who Is Authorized to Sign the Template

Alex Rivera, Project Manager

As the designated project manager, Alex signs for operational acceptance and confirms technical assumptions. The organization’s delegation rules require additional executive signature if project budget exceeds the approved threshold.

Dana Lee, Chief Financial Officer

As CFO, Dana reviews and signs the budget authorization section. Financial sign-off confirms funding availability and triggers procurement actions under corporate policy.
