Box 457 – 28908 NW Main Avenue Ridgefield, WA 98652 Phone: 360/887-4106 Fax: 360/887-4109 February 21, 2011 YOUTH CONSERVATION CORPS (YCC) – SUMMER JOBS DESCRIPTION WHERE: Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge (Office – 28908 NW Main Avenue, Ridgefield) WHEN: June 27, 2011 through August 19, 2011 HOURS: 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (40 hours per week) PAY: $8.67 per hour (Washington State minimum wage) POSITIONS AVAILABLE: Up to 5 Crew Members APPLICATION DEADLINE: Applications must be received (not postmarked) at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge office by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2011. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. Applications may be physically delivered to the refuge office (28908 NW Main Avenue, Ridgefield, WA 98642) or received by mail (P.O. Box 457, Ridgefield, WA, 98642) by the due date. GENERAL ENROLLEE REQUIREMENTS:  The crew member job vacancies will be filled by a random drawing. Selected applicants will be notified by phone and/or mail by April 29th. Additionally, two alternates will be drawn in the event that a selected applicant declines a position or is otherwise ineligible.  Enrollees must be at least 15 years of age before the first day of work and cannot have reached 19 years of age during the duration of the program.  ALL selected applicants and a guardian must attend a meeting on May 3, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge headquarters at 28908 NW Main Avenue, Ridgefield.  Crew members must arrange their own transportation to and from the Refuge headquarters on work days. Page 1 of 2  Crew members will wear work boots, long-sleeved shirts, and long pants during work hours. Employer provided personal protective equipment (e.g. gloves, hard hats, goggles, and ear protection) will be worn by employees while performing project work.  All workers will be expected to attend every work day and complete the full eight week program. Requests for leave must be approved prior to the beginning of the program. Crew members do not earn leave and any leave granted will be leave without pay.  Enrollees must not have participated in any YCC program for more than 3 weeks in the past. JOB DUTIES: YCC participants will be involved in a variety of natural resource and recreation management projects. Projects may include, but are not limited to, interpretive facility maintenance, grounds maintenance, fence construction and maintenance, installing and maintaining signs, trail/road maintenance, litter removal, and invasive plant control. Crew members will participate in environmental education activities and field trips to nearby destination may be taken. All work projects are designed to help develop good work skills, work habits, and safety awareness.
