Common Mistakes to Avoid When Preparing the Template

  • Failing to include exact mounting details and fastener types, which can lead to noncompliant installations and costly rework.
  • Using vague payment language like 'reasonable time' instead of fixed milestones and retention percentages, increasing dispute risk.
  • Omitting permit or inspector contact details so inspections are delayed and work cannot be legally closed out.
  • Listing materials without manufacturer model numbers or load ratings, allowing substitutions that fail safety or warranty terms.

Risks and Potential Consequences of an Incomplete or Incorrect Template

Code Violation: Permit denial or stop-work order
Liability Exposure: Increased risk of injury claims
Permit Fines: Civil penalties from local authority
Structural Failure: Safety defects and costly remediation
Insurance Denial: Claims rejected for noncompliance
Contract Dispute: Payment withholding or litigation

Practical Examples of How the Template Is Used in the Field
