Common mistakes to avoid

  • Incomplete property or contact details that prevent scheduling, result in missed access, or delay insurance verification; include full address, unit numbers, and phone contact.
  • Vague service descriptions such as 'fix gutters' without specifying materials, locations, or quantities lead to scope disputes and unexpected change orders.
  • Missing proof of contractor insurance or license increases liability exposure for homeowners and may void insurer coverage during the work period.
  • Using initials instead of full signatures or incorrect date formats can invalidate the authorization for some insurers or payment processors.

Key risks and potential consequences

Contractor Liability: Breach may lead to civil claims.
Insurance Denial: Missing docs can deny claims.
Payment Disputes: Late or disputed invoices.
Code Violations: Local permits may be required.
Property Damage: Homeowner may seek restitution.
Record Loss: Poor retention harms claims.
