Practical tips to reduce errors and speed processing

Best practices for completing the Homeowners Insurance Form reduce errors, speed underwriting, and strengthen claims outcomes.

Verify identity and exact names
Double-check that names match government IDs and mortgage documents. Inconsistent names create identity verification issues, delay policy issuance, and can complicate claim settlements. Update legal names through endorsement procedures rather than informal variations.
Attach clear supporting documentation
Include prior declaration pages, repair receipts, photographs, and receipts for high-value items. Label files and reference the form fields to speed review; keep originals in case of disputes. Provide concise captions for photos indicating room and date.
Use consistent full addresses and correct dates
Enter the complete street address, unit number, city, state spelled out, and ZIP as on tax and mortgage records. Use MM/DD/YYYY for dates to avoid confusion during underwriting and claims.
Disclose all prior claims and losses
Report dates, causes, and amounts for every relevant prior claim within the insurer's lookback period. Concealing claims can void coverage or result in penalties; accurate disclosure facilitates correct rate assignment.
