What the Immigration DACA Renewal Form Is

The Immigration DACA Renewal Form refers to the USCIS submissions used to renew Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status and related employment authorization. Renewals typically require the same benefit forms submitted for initial requests (for example, Form I-821D and Form I-765 and any required worksheets), supporting evidence of continued eligibility, and any applicable biometrics. The renewal packet documents an applicant's identity, continuous residence, and eligibility factors so USCIS can determine whether to extend deferred action and an Employment Authorization Document (EAD). Applicants should follow current USCIS filing instructions and retain copies for their records.

Why a Correct Renewal Packet Matters

Submitting an accurate, timely Immigration DACA Renewal Form preserves deferred action and work authorization, reduces the chance of processing delays or denials, and helps maintain continuous employment eligibility. Proper documentation also supports future immigration filings and minimizes the risk of gaps in benefits or inadvertent unauthorized employment.

Why a Correct Renewal Packet Matters

Who Completes the DACA Renewal Forms

The primary filer is the DACA recipient seeking extension of deferred action and, where applicable, renewal of an Employment Authorization Document (EAD).

  • DACA recipients renewing deferred action and/or EAD, submitting personal identity and eligibility evidence.
  • Accredited immigration attorneys and BIA-accredited representatives preparing filings or advising on evidence.
  • Community legal clinics and organizations assisting applicants with form completion and documentation.

Attorneys, accredited representatives, and community legal clinics frequently prepare and review renewal packets to confirm eligibility and reduce errors before submission.

Step-by-step: Prepare and submit your renewal

Follow a consistent sequence to assemble, sign, and submit your renewal packet to reduce errors and processing time.

  • 01
Gather documents: Collect IDs, prior USCIS notices, and evidence of continuous presence.
  • 02
Complete forms: Fill I-821D, I-765, and any required worksheets fully and accurately.
  • 03
Sign and assemble: Sign where required and attach labeled supporting evidence.
  • 04
Mail or file: Submit per USCIS filing instructions and keep proof of mailing or receipt.

Where and how renewal packets are submitted

Follow USCIS filing instructions for each form; submission method depends on the specific form and current USCIS guidance.

  • Prepare package: Assemble forms, fees, and labeled evidence
  • Paper filing: Mail to the USCIS lockbox address listed for your form
  • Biometrics: Attend any USCIS biometrics appointment if scheduled
  • Keep copies: Retain complete copies and proof of mailing or tracking

Digital signing and file-format considerations

Use PDF as the standard archival format; verify that any signed copy preserves the audit trail and signer metadata.

  • File formats: PDF, DOCX, HTML
  • Integrations: Google Workspace, Microsoft 365
  • Compliance: ESIGN, UETA, HIPAA (BAA available)

Timing: when to file your DACA renewal

Submit renewal materials well before expiration to avoid gaps in deferred action or work authorization; USCIS timing guidance helps applicants plan.

Recommended filing window:

Submit 120 days before expiration per USCIS guidance

Receipt notice:

USCIS issues Form I-797C upon acceptance

Biometrics appointment:

Scheduled weeks after receipt, if required

Processing variability:

Times vary by service center and caseload

Expedite requests:

Consider only for urgent, documented emergencies

Key milestones in the renewal lifecycle

A typical renewal moves through distinct stages from submission to decision; track each milestone to avoid missed appointments or deadlines.

01

Submission

USCIS receives and logs your renewal packet

02

Receipt

Form I-797C confirms acceptance and case number

03

Biometrics

Applicant completes fingerprint and photo appointment

04

Decision and EAD

USCIS issues approval or denial and any EAD

Common mistakes to avoid when renewing DACA

  • Submitting inconsistent names or dates that do not match prior USCIS records, triggering identity verification delays and RFEs.
  • Failing to include A-Number or prior receipt numbers, which slows USCIS retrieval of existing files and lengthens processing time.
  • Delaying submission until close to expiration and creating a gap in work authorization or increased risk of unauthorized employment.
  • Providing undated or unlabeled supporting documents that make it difficult for adjudicators to confirm continuous presence.

Consequences of incorrect or late renewal filings

Denial: May result in loss of deferred action
EAD gap: Employment authorization lapses
Fees forfeited: Filing fees may not be refunded
Removal risk: Denial can affect future relief
Identity delays: Mismatched records slow adjudication
Biometrics failure: Missed appointment can pause processing

Essential data elements to include

Legal name: Full legal name
Alien number: A-Number if assigned
Date of birth: MM/DD/YYYY
Country of birth: Country name
USCIS receipts: Prior receipt numbers
Signature: Original signature where required

Core components of a professional renewal packet

A complete renewal packet organizes forms, evidence, and signatures so adjudicators can confirm continued eligibility without issuing requests for additional evidence.

Applicant identification

Full legal name, A-Number, date of birth, and contact information that match USCIS records to ensure identity verification and accurate file retrieval.

Benefit forms

Completed Form I-821D and Form I-765 (and any required worksheets), filled exactly per USCIS instructions and signed where required to meet filing standards.

Supporting evidence

Dated documentation demonstrating continuous presence, identity, and eligibility—school records, pay stubs, medical records, or affidavits organized and labeled as exhibits.

Fee documentation

Accurate fee submission or fee-waiver documentation when applicable, with evidence of payment or properly completed waiver forms if eligible.

Biometrics compliance

Respond promptly to biometrics scheduling notices; failure to appear can pause or result in denial of the renewal request.

Signatures and translations

Original signatures where required; include certified English translations for any non-English documents and label translators' affidavits.
