TRIA Coverage Election

Under the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program (TRIA), certain certified acts of terrorism may be covered on a limited basis. The undersigned Applicant must make an affirmative election to include or decline TRIA-covered terrorism insurance as part of the policy quote. Select one option below. Selecting the inclusion will result in applicable TRIA surcharges and adjustments to premium.

I elect to include terrorism coverage subject to the terms, limitations and certification procedures of the applicable federal program and of the policy. I understand that coverage for certified acts of terrorism is limited by statute and policy terms, and that certain losses may not qualify as certified acts.

I decline terrorism coverage subject to the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program for the policy period shown above. I acknowledge that by declining I will not receive coverage for certified acts of terrorism under this policy.

Exclusions and Important Notices

The Applicant acknowledges that: (a) TRIA coverage is subject to federal certification of an act of terrorism; (b) coverage for certain events may be limited or excluded by policy language (including, where applicable, certain nuclear, biological, chemical or radiological losses); (c) TRIA establishes program deductibles, co-payments and other limitations that may affect recovery; and (d) actual coverage is determined by the policy terms and any final governmental determinations required by statute.

The Applicant further acknowledges that the insurer's offer of TRIA-covered terrorism insurance is conditioned upon the Applicant's representations herein and the insurer's underwriting review. Any misrepresentation or omission of material facts may render the coverage voidable in accordance with the policy and applicable law.

What the Insurance Quote TRIA Form Is and when it applies

The Insurance Quote TRIA Form documents a proposed policy's terrorism coverage terms and any TRIA-related election or certification associated with commercial property and casualty quotations. It typically records insurer name, policyholder identity, coverage limits for insured acts of terrorism, premium estimates, and whether the insurer elects to provide terrorism risk insurance consistent with the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) framework. This form helps underwriters, brokers, and risk managers evaluate pricing and scope for terrorism peril and preserves a written record used during binding, audit, or regulatory review.

Why a clear TRIA insurance quote matters

A complete Insurance Quote TRIA Form reduces underwriting delays and supports regulatory compliance by clearly recording terrorism coverage terms, premium assumptions, and the parties’ agreement on scope.

Why a clear TRIA insurance quote matters

Who prepares and reviews the TRIA insurance quote

Several roles interact with the Insurance Quote TRIA Form during pricing, review, and approval.

  • Insurance underwriters — Evaluate risk, set limits, and determine premiums based on TRIA exposure.
  • Brokers / agents — Request and compare TRIA-inclusive quotes for clients.
  • Risk managers / policyholders — Confirm coverage, limits, and premium allocation for terrorism perils.

Final sign-off is commonly performed by an authorized representative of the insurer and, when required, the named insured.

Primary signatories and roles

Insurer Authorized Signer

An officer or delegated underwriter who can bind coverage and confirm TRIA-related terms. This person must be listed with title and authority; their signature attributes acceptance of premium, limits, and any TRIA certification language.

Named Insured Representative

A named insured’s executive or risk manager who can accept the quote and acknowledge premium and policy conditions. The representative’s signature confirms intent to procure coverage and authorizes submission of applicant data for placement.

Coverage Limits

Stated per-occurrence and aggregate limits, applicable deductibles, and whether limits apply across coverages or per-location as relevant.

Premium & Fees

Itemized premium estimate, policy fees, taxes, and whether the total is subject to audit or post-issuance adjustment.

  • Internal Review: Compliance or actuarial team verifies terms and pricing.
  • Authorization: Authorized signer binds coverage and signs the quote.
  • Distribution: Send executed quote to broker, insured, and retention repository.

Common mistakes to avoid when preparing a TRIA insurance quote

  • Using abbreviated or inconsistent insured names that do not match tax or legal records, causing underwriter rework and binding delays.
  • Failing to state whether TRIA coverage is subject to sublimits or exclusions, which leads to differing expectations at claim time.
  • Omitting signature authority details (title, contact) so acceptance cannot be validated without additional correspondence.
  • Leaving premium lines as estimates without noting that final premium is subject to audit or exposure changes.

Practical examples of TRIA quote use cases

Two concise scenarios show how an Insurance Quote TRIA Form is used in commercial placement and policy issuance.

Large Commercial Placement

An underwriter prepares a TRIA-inclusive quote for a multinational client with multiple properties in high-risk zones

  • The broker reviews sublimits and aggregate exposure across locations
  • The executed quote documents intent, premium basis, and TRIA election, enabling placement and audit trail continuity for regulatory review.

Mid‑Market Renewal

A mid-market insured requests TRIA coverage during renewal alongside terrorism exclusion adjustments

  • The insurer provides an itemized premium and a TRIA election line item
  • The signed quote becomes part of the renewal package and supports claims handling if a covered terrorism event occurs.
