What the Insurance Windstorm Exclusion Form Is

The Insurance Windstorm Exclusion Form is a policy amendment or endorsement used to expressly remove windstorm-related perils from a property insurance policy. It identifies the insured, insurer, policy number, property location, and the effective date or triggering condition for the exclusion. The completed form creates a written record of the parties' agreement that wind-related losses are excluded, and it is commonly required by underwriters, coastal property programs, or mortgage lenders as part of risk assessment and loan conditions.

Why a Clear Exclusion Matters

A written windstorm exclusion clarifies coverage limits, reduces underwriting ambiguity, and protects insurers from unanticipated wind-related claim exposure.

Why a Clear Exclusion Matters

Who Typically Uses This Form

Typical users include insurance carriers, underwriting teams, property owners in high-wind zones, mortgage lenders, and insurance agents handling coastal or storm-prone accounts.

  • Insurance carriers: issue endorsements, document exclusions, and adjust underwriting terms for affected properties.
  • Property owners: acknowledge reduced coverage, disclose to lenders, or seek alternate windstorm policies.
  • Mortgage lenders: require exclusion documentation for collateral evaluation and loan closing conditions.

The form supports allocation of wind risk across stakeholders and is often retained with underwriting files, lender closing documents, and policy endorsements.

Core Components of a Professional Exclusion Form

A professional Insurance Windstorm Exclusion Form contains identification, effective dates, explicit exclusion language, signatory acknowledgements, supplemental evidence, and insurer or mortgagee references to make the exclusion enforceable and auditable.

Identification

Full legal names of insurer and insured, policy number, property address, and any mortgagee or additional insured references necessary to bind the exclusion to the correct risk.

Effective Date

Enter the effective date in MM/DD/YYYY format or describe a triggering event; this determines when windstorm exclusion applies and influences claim coverage determinations and premium adjustments.

Scope of Exclusion

Specify perils excluded (wind, hurricane, tornado), affected policy sections (property, dwelling, contents), and any explicit time- or location-based limitations such as coastal zones or named storms.

Acknowledgement

Provide signature blocks for insured, agent, and insurer representative with printed names and dates; include optional mortgagee acknowledgment, contact details, and agent license information to satisfy lender and underwriting requirements.

Legal Language

Include precise exclusion clause text that references the policy endorsement number, cross-referenced policy sections, and unambiguous statements limiting insurer liability for windstorm losses when the exclusion applies.

Supplemental Details

Attach maps, precise coordinates, building heights, or engineering reports that substantiate elevated wind exposure; include insurer underwriting notes, file references, and any prior loss history.
