What the Interior Design Approval Form Is and when it applies

An Interior Design Approval Form documents client authorization for a proposed design scope, materials, finishes, and costs before work begins. It creates a clear written record of decisions such as selected finishes, allowances, change orders, scheduling windows, and payment responsibilities. The form reduces misunderstandings, supports permit and procurement workflows, and serves as an auditable record for billing, warranty, and dispute resolution when signed by all parties.

Why a formal approval form matters for projects and compliance

A standardized approval form clarifies scope, protects both client and designer, and reduces change-order disputes. It helps teams track approvals, manage vendor orders, and document acceptance for invoicing and insurance purposes while supporting lawful electronic signatures under ESIGN and state e-signature rules.

Why a formal approval form matters for projects and compliance

Who typically completes or signs this approval form

The form is used by project stakeholders who must confirm design choices and budgets before procurement or construction begins.

  • Homeowners and property owners who approve final materials, colors, and budget items for residential projects.
  • Project managers or general contractors who confirm sequencing, site access, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Design principals or lead interior designers who document scope, deliverables, and client-authorized allowances.

Maintain copies for project records and share with vendors, contractors, and permitting authorities as required.
