What a Legal PR Agreement Covers

A Legal PR Agreement is a written contract that defines the relationship between a client (individual or organization) and a public relations firm, consultant, or law firm handling public communications tied to legal matters. It sets the scope of services, confidentiality and media controls, approval processes for statements, fee and payment terms, timelines, and obligations for crisis response or litigation-related outreach. The agreement also allocates responsibilities for regulatory disclosures, attorney-client considerations, and any required indemnities, helping both parties manage reputational and legal risk during media engagement.

Why this Agreement Matters for Legal and Communications Teams

A clear Legal PR Agreement minimizes misunderstandings, preserves privilege where appropriate, defines public-facing approvals, and allocates liability for statements and disclosures. It protects client confidentiality, sets expectations for timing and scope, and documents consent for publicity tied to legal matters.

Why this Agreement Matters for Legal and Communications Teams

Who Typically Uses a Legal PR Agreement

Legal PR Agreements are used by teams that mix legal strategy with public communications, especially when litigation, regulatory matters, or sensitive transactions are public-facing.

  • Law firms and in-house counsel coordinating media strategies during litigation or regulatory review.
  • PR agencies and crisis communications consultants hired to manage legal-related public statements.
  • Corporate communications, compliance, and executive teams needing aligned legal sign-off on disclosures.

Use this agreement when a client, counsel, or communications vendor must coordinate legally sensitive messaging with defined approvals and protections.
