What the Legal Pre-filing Form Is and when it’s used

A Legal Pre-filing Form is a preparatory document completed before an official court, agency, or administrative filing to collect and verify essential information, supporting documents, and attestations. It organizes party details, factual summaries, and exhibits so that the subsequent formal filing meets procedural requirements and local rules. The form helps identify gaps, confirm signatures and dates, and produce a consistent record for counsel, clients, opposing parties, or agency reviewers. It is often retained as part of the administrative record and can be completed on paper or electronically where permitted by law.

Why a pre-filing checklist matters for accuracy and compliance

Using a Legal Pre-filing Form reduces the risk of rejection or procedural delay, documents key facts and authorizations, and creates a reproducible record showing intent and consent. Completing the form also clarifies required attachments and helps verify signer identity ahead of formal submission.

Why a pre-filing checklist matters for accuracy and compliance

Who typically fills out and relies on this form

The Legal Pre-filing Form is used by a range of practitioners and organizational roles to prepare filings consistently and reduce downstream problems.

  • In-house counsel and paralegals who coordinate supporting evidence and internal approvals for agency or court submissions.
  • Litigation attorneys and court clerks who require standardized case identifiers, exhibit lists, and verification language prior to docketing.
  • Title companies, real estate closers, and compliance officers who need verified signatures, notarizations, and attachable proof of identity.

Use this form as a shared checklist among signers, counsel, and administrative staff to ensure completeness before filing.
