What a Marketing Google Ads Proposal Is and When It Applies

A Marketing Google Ads Proposal is a written offer from an agency, consultant, or internal marketing team that outlines recommended Google Ads campaign strategy, goals, budget, timeline, deliverables, and commercial terms. The document frames objectives (traffic, leads, conversions), specifies targeting and creative expectations, defines reporting cadence, and sets payment and termination terms. Proposals often include a scope of work, campaign budget allocation, expected KPIs, assumptions, and a signature block to record agreement; they serve as the basis for contract formation once accepted and signed by both parties.

Why a Structured Proposal Benefits Campaign Planning

A clear Marketing Google Ads Proposal aligns client expectations, documents the scope and budget, reduces scope creep, and records consent to fees and deliverables; it also creates an auditable record that supports invoicing and dispute resolution.

Why a Structured Proposal Benefits Campaign Planning

Who Typically Prepares or Signs This Proposal

Use the proposal to create a single source of truth before campaign setup and payment authorizations.

  • Marketing agencies: Prepare full strategy, media buys, and billing terms for clients.
  • In-house marketing teams: Use proposals to approve budget and align stakeholders.
  • Freelance consultants: Clarify scope, timelines, and deliverables for single-client engagements.

Essential Sections of a Professional Marketing Google Ads Proposal

A professional proposal is concise yet complete: it combines an easy-to-scan executive summary with technical campaign details, pricing, responsibilities, and a clear signature section to establish agreement.

Executive Summary

One-paragraph overview of campaign goals, target audience, and expected business outcomes designed for decision-makers and budget approvers.

Objectives & KPIs

Define measurable goals such as clicks, conversions, CPA, ROAS, and reporting frequency so performance expectations are explicit.

Scope of Work

Detailed list of tasks: keyword research, ad copy, landing page recommendations, bid strategy, A/B testing, and account management hours.

Budget & Fees

Breakdown of media spend, management fees, setup charges, and any third-party costs to avoid misunderstandings about billing.

Timeline

Milestones for discovery, launch, optimization windows, and review meetings to set realistic start and evaluation dates.

Terms & Signatures

Payment terms, termination rights, confidentiality, and signature lines to convert the proposal into an enforceable agreement when signed.

Required Information to Include in the Proposal

Client Legal Name: Exact business or individual name.
Billing Details: Billing contact, address, and tax ID if applicable.
Campaign Budget: Monthly media spend and agency fees.
Targeting & Geo: Locations, languages, and audience segments.
Deliverables: Reports, assets, and optimization cadence.
Effective Date: Contract start date (MM/DD/YYYY).

Step-by-Step: Preparing and Finalizing a Marketing Google Ads Proposal

Follow a clear sequence from discovery to signature to ensure the proposal becomes an executable agreement without scope or billing disputes.

  • 01
Gather Inputs: Collect access, goals, budget, and historical performance data.
  • 02
Draft Strategy: Outline targeting, keywords, bidding, and creative approach.
  • 03
Set Costs: Detail media spend, fees, and payment schedule.
  • 04
Send for Signature: Issue the final document for e-signature and retain a copy.

Configuring an Online Proposal Workflow

When completing the proposal online, configure fields and routing so the client sees only relevant items and signing order is enforced.

Field Configuration

Where to Send and Store the Completed Proposal

Use consistent destinations for signed proposals to support accounting, campaign setup, and legal recordkeeping.

  • Client: Send final signed PDF to the client contact email.
  • CRM: Attach signed proposal to the account record in the CRM.
  • Document Storage: Archive a copy in corporate file storage with access controls.
  • Billing System: Trigger invoice generation based on signed acceptance.

Digital Signing and File Formats to Use

Store signed records in encrypted storage and keep an accessible audit trail for future billing and compliance reviews.

  • File Formats: PDF or DOCX for editable templates.
  • Integrations: Salesforce, NetSuite, Google Workspace supported.
  • Authentication: Email code or SMS for signer verification.

Typical Timelines and Deadlines to Include

Define dates for proposal validity, client acceptance, campaign launch, and billing to prevent misunderstandings and ensure timely activation.

Proposal Validity:

Specify how long the pricing and scope remain valid (e.g., 30 days).

Acceptance Deadline:

Date by which client must sign to secure the proposed start date.

Campaign Start:

Planned launch date, allowing setup and QA time.

Billing Trigger:

State when invoices are issued (on signing, on launch, or monthly).

Review Milestones:

Set 30/60/90-day performance review dates after launch.

Common Mistakes to Avoid When Preparing Proposals

  • Leaving the budget as a single combined number without separating media spend from management fees creates confusion during invoicing and performance attribution.
  • Using vague deliverables (e.g., "optimize campaigns") without hours or KPIs invites scope creep and disputes over chargeable work.
  • Failing to confirm signing authority for corporate clients can invalidate execution and delay campaign start until a person with signing power signs.
  • Not specifying the effective date or campaign start window leads to ambiguity about billing periods and performance measurement baselines.

Risks and Consequences of an Incorrect or Incomplete Proposal

Delayed Launch: Campaign start postponed due to missing approvals.
Billing Disputes: Unclear fees can cause payment delays or disputes.
Scope Creep: Ambiguous tasks lead to unbilled extra work.
Contract Invalidity: Unauthorized signatory may render agreement unenforceable.
Data Privacy: Improper client data handling can breach privacy rules.
Reputational Harm: Poorly scoped results can damage client relationships.

Confirm Signatory Authority
Verify the signer has authority to bind the client entity and record that confirmation in the proposal metadata.
