What the Miscellaneous Shower Door Addendum Is and When It Applies

The Miscellaneous Shower Door Addendum is a short supplemental contract that modifies or records specific terms about shower door items within a primary construction, remodeling, or real estate agreement. Typical uses include documenting scope changes, specifying product models or finishes, establishing allowances or extra charges, setting installation and inspection dates, and listing warranty terms or acceptance criteria. The addendum should identify the parties, reference the original agreement, detail precise measurements and item descriptions, record any price adjustments, and include dated signatures from authorized signatories to bind the change.

Why Using a Dedicated Addendum Matters

A focused addendum protects both parties by clearly recording changes, costs, and timelines separate from the main contract.

Why Using a Dedicated Addendum Matters

Who Typically Prepares and Signs This Addendum

The addendum is most often completed by contractors, installation subcontractors, property managers, and homeowners or buyers when shower door items differ from the original scope.

  • General Contractors — Document manufacturer, model, and installation tolerances before ordering.
  • Homeowners / Buyers — Confirm finish, glass type, and acceptance conditions in writing.
  • Property Managers — Record maintenance responsibilities and warranty handoff for multiunit sites.

Accurate completion prevents disputes, speeds approvals, and clarifies warranty and acceptance responsibilities for all parties.

Step-by-Step: Completing and Executing the Addendum

Follow these steps to prepare, approve, and retain the addendum so it attaches cleanly to the base contract.

  • 01
Review Contract: Locate the original agreement and reference its date and parties.
  • 02
Detail Scope: Specify the exact shower door items, measurements, and installation requirements.
  • 03
Set Costs: Record allowances, firm prices, or change-order pricing and payment terms.
  • 04
Sign and Distribute: Obtain authorized signatures, date the addendum, and share copies with all parties.

Six Elements a Professional Addendum Always Includes

A well-formed addendum is concise but complete; include these six elements to reduce disputes and streamline administration.

Reference

Base agreement citation with date and parties so the addendum unambiguously attaches to the original contract.

Scope

Clear description of the shower door items, finishes, model numbers, and exact measurements to avoid substitution disputes.

Pricing

Allowance or firm price language, taxes, labor, and how cost overruns will be handled, with payment schedule if applicable.

Schedule

Installation start and completion dates, dependency notes (e.g., tile completion), and inspection or acceptance milestones.

Acceptance

Criteria for homeowner acceptance, corrective work procedures, and warranty handoff terms to govern post-install issues.

Execution

Signature lines, printed names, titles, and effective date to create an enforceable amendment to the contract.

Essential Data Fields to Capture and Protect

Signer Identity: Full legal name
Dates: Execution and effective dates
Measurements: Exact width/height/depth
Model/Finish: Manufacturer and finish
Price Terms: Allowance or fixed amount
Warranty: Duration and coverage

Top Risks and Consequences of an Incorrect Addendum

Scope Ambiguity: Price disputes
Missing Signatures: Enforceability issues
Wrong Measurements: Rework costs
Schedule Conflicts: Project delays
Warranty Gaps: Voided coverage
Permit Problems: Inspection failures

Common Preparation Errors to Avoid

  • Using vague descriptions such as 'standard glass' instead of naming the exact glass tempering and thickness causes ordering mistakes and disputes.
  • Failing to reference the original contract date and parties can make it unclear whether the addendum attaches to the correct agreement.
  • Leaving pricing terms unspecified or labelled as estimates without maximum limits leads to unexpected cost claims and payment disagreements.
  • Signing without verifying measurements or installation dependencies (tile, framing) increases rework and scheduling conflicts.

Where the Signed Addendum Goes and Who Sees It

After execution, route the addendum to contract stakeholders and retain it with project records to ensure enforceability and auditability.

  • Contract File: Attach signed addendum to original contract record.
  • Project Manager: Deliver copy for scheduling and procurement.
  • Permitting Office: Provide if permit conditions require change documentation.
  • Owner / Client: Send final signed copy for acceptance and warranty records.
