What the Moving Services Interstate Move document is

A Moving Services Interstate Move is a written agreement and set of records used when a household goods carrier, broker, or moving company provides relocation services that cross state lines. It typically combines the bill of lading, service order, estimate type (binding or nonbinding), declared valuation and liability terms, pickup and delivery instructions, and a customer signature accepting the carrier's terms. These documents establish rights and responsibilities for both shipper and carrier, create the basis for claims related to loss or damage, and may be required by federal or state regulators for interstate moves.

Why a clear Interstate Move document matters

A complete Moving Services Interstate Move record reduces disputes, clarifies liability and delivery expectations, and documents valuation and charges in compliance with federal and state rules. Accurate records speed claims handling and protect both consumer and carrier interests.

Why a clear Interstate Move document matters

Who prepares and signs this interstate moving record

Several parties commonly create, review, or sign the Moving Services Interstate Move document; each has distinct responsibilities.

  • Shipper / Customer: Provides inventory, chooses valuation, confirms addresses and special handling instructions; signs to accept terms.
  • Carrier / Moving Company: Creates the bill of lading, records estimate type and valuation, and notes pickup/delivery dates.
  • Broker or Agent: Arranges services, documents contract terms between customer and carrier, and may collect payment or deposits.

Clear role allocation in the document reduces processing time and makes dispute resolution and claims handling more straightforward.

Key components every professional Interstate Move record should include

Bill of Lading

Carrier's contract of carriage defining pickup, delivery, charges, and conditions; serves as primary legal record for the shipment.

Valuation Statement

Customer's selected valuation and declared value or released value option; limits carrier liability for loss or damage.

Inventory List

Itemized list with counts and condition notes; enable photos and serial numbers for high-value items.

Accessorial Charges
