In order to vote in the state of Nebraska, you must meet the following
requirements:
You must be a U.S. citizen.
You must be at least 18 years of age on or before the first Tuesday after
the first Monday in November.
You must live in the State of Nebraska. You may register to vote the same
day you become a resident of Nebraska. Your residence will be
considered the place where you have established a home, where you are
habitually present, and where, when you depart, you intend to return.
You must not have been convicted of a felony, or if you have been
convicted, at least two years must have passed since the completion of
your sentence for the felony including any parole term.
You must not have been officially found to be mentally incompetent.
You must be registered to vote except in a Presidential election, where
you may vote a Presidential-only ballot by contacting your county election
official if you have recently moved to Nebraska. You may register to vote
by one of the following methods:
oIn person at your local county clerk/election commissioner’s office
during normal business hours, prior to 6 p.m. on the second Friday
preceding an election.
o By mail by obtaining a voter registration application from a bank,
post office or library. You may also obtain a voter registration
application online at
http://www.sos.state.ne.us/elec/pdf/vr.pdf .
oThrough the Department of Motor Vehicles Driver’s Exam Station
when applying for your driver’s license, permit or state ID or at
various other state agencies or at the office of any County
Treasurer.
You must sign and return your Voter Registration Application to your
county clerk/ election commissioner. You must have your mail-in voter
registration mailed and postmarked on or before the third Friday preceding
an election. Your voter registration must be delivered by personal
messenger or personal agent on or before the third Friday preceding an
election.
IDENTIFICATION CARD REQUIREMENTS-
In order to obtain an identification card in Nebraska, you must meet the following
requirements:You must provide two forms of identification (one which includes your
name and date of birth) in the form of one primary document and one
secondary document or two primary documents from the following list:
oPrimary documents include:
Valid Nebraska digital image photo retained in the
Department of Motor Vehicles computer system
Certified birth certificate containing name and date of birth
Certified birth registration containing name and date of birth
Certified birth certificate of your child’s showing your name
and date of birth
Certified birth registration of your child’s showing your name
and date of birth
Valid or expired operator’s license (Nebraska, out-of-state or
U.S. territories) or temporary license (out-of-state) containing
name and date of birth as long as the license is not
mutilated, altered, suspended, revoked or cancelled.
Valid or expired commercial driver’s license (Nebraska or
out-of-state) or temporary commercial driver’s license (out-
of-state) containing name and date of birth as long as the
license is not mutilated, suspended, revoked or canceled
and the license is on the Commercial Driver’s License
information system
Valid or expired Nebraska Employment Drive permit
containing your name and date of birth
Valid Nebraska reinstatement letter containing name and
date of birth (if a Nebraska license, permit or state ID card
exists in the Department’s records and the letter is used
within 30 days of issuance)
Valid or expired learner’s permit, school permit or provisional
operator’s permit (Nebraska, out-of-state or U.S. territories)
containing your name and date of birth as long as the permit
is not mutilated, altered, suspended, revoked or cancelled
Valid or expired Nebraska Farm Husbandry Permit or
Snowmobile Permit containing your name and date of birth
as long as the permit is not mutilated, altered, suspended,
revoked or cancelled
Valid or expired Nebraska state ID card issued after January
1, 1990
Valid or expired U.S. Passport containing your name and
date of birth
Valid Military ID card, discharge papers (Form DD 214) or
Veterans Universal ID card containing your social security
number or service number and date of birth
Draft card issued prior to 1973 containing your name and
date of birth
Certified marriage license containing your name and date of
birth
Certified divorce decree containing your name and date of
birth
Certified school records from grade school or high school
containing name and date of birth
Valid resident alien card or permanent resident card (I-551)
including your name and date of birth
Valid temporary resident ID card (I-688) containing your
name and date of birth
Valid record of arrival and departure in a valid foreign
passport (I-94 or I-94A) containing your name and date of
birth. If the I-94 or I-94A is stamped “Refugee” or the place
of origin is Canada, no valid foreign passport is required.
Valid ADIT stamp “Processed for I-551, temporary evidence
of lawful admission for permanent residence until
_________” in a valid foreign passport containing your name
and date of birth. (After June 28, 2004, printed statement
“Upon Endorsement Serves as Temporary I-551 Evidencing
Permanent Resident for 1 Year” in valid foreign passport
containing your name and date of birth providing proper
placement of an admission stamp.)
Valid Employment Authorization Card (I-688A, I-766)
containing your name and date of birth
Letter from Nebraska Department of Health and Human
Services on State Letterhead showing your name as a

If you are under 18 years of age, you must present your certified birth
registration as proof of identity. If you are presenting a foreign-based birth
certificate, you must also present a U.S. based document. If you do not
have these documents, you must have your parent or guardian complete a
certification stating your identity, accompanied by two forms of
identification (one that includes your name and date of birth) as listed
above.
You must provide a valid social security number or a valid U.S. Citizenship
and Immigration Services I-94 document (in a valid foreign passport) to be
verified through the Social Security Administration. You may provide proof
of your social security number as follows:
oSocial Security Card
o Military ID card
o DD214 discharge papers
o Official company issued payroll documents indicating
name, address and Social Security Number
o Medicare card with “A” following the Social Security Number.
You may also be required to provide proof of residency in the form of one
or more of the following documents that include your name and address:
oHouse payment
o Electricity bill
o Gas bill
o Rent receipt
o Phone bill
o Checks with printed name and address
DRIVER’S LICENSE REQUIREMENTS-
If you have a valid license from another state, you must obtain a Nebraska
license within 30 days.
In order to obtain a driver’s license card in Nebraska, you must meet the
following requirements:You must be 18 years of age, or at least 17 years of age if you have held
a provisional operator’s permit for one year and have not accumulated
three or more violation points during the previous 12 month period.
You must appear before a Driver’s License Examiner, complete an
application and provide one form of identification that includes your name
and date of birth from the above list of acceptable primary and secondary
documents.
VEHICLE TITLE AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS-

local County Treasurer’s office.

o Sheriff’s Vehicle Inspection form
o Copy of Security Agreement if previous state’s title indicates an
open lien
