What the Nomination Letter Template Is

A Nomination Letter Template is a standardized written form used to nominate an individual for a role, award, board seat, committee membership, or other designated responsibility. It collects essential details about the nominee, the nominator, the position or honor sought, and the justification for the nomination. Organizations use the template to ensure consistent information, to document the nominee's qualifications, and to create a permanent record for review by selection committees, boards, or human resources. The template may include signature blocks, effective dates, and space for supporting attachments such as resumes or references.

Why a Clear Nomination Letter Template Matters

A clear template reduces ambiguity, speeds review, and preserves a consistent record of the nominee's qualifications and the nominator's endorsement while supporting auditability and fair selection processes.

Why a Clear Nomination Letter Template Matters

Who Typically Prepares and Reviews Nomination Letters

Organizations, committees, and individuals use nomination letters to propose candidates for positions, honors, or official roles; formats vary by context and governance rules.

  • Board secretaries and governance officers who manage elections and appointments within organizations.
  • Department heads and supervisors nominating staff for internal awards or promotions.
  • Professional associations and award committees assessing external nominations for honors or recognition.

Keep the intended reviewers in mind when drafting the letter so the content addresses selection criteria, required approvals, and any supporting documentation the reviewer expects.
