What a Performance Semi Annual Review Is

A Performance Semi Annual Review is a standardized employer document used to assess an employee’s job performance every six months. It records goals, supervisor feedback, competency ratings, development plans and any agreed actions. The review creates a dated record for personnel files, supports pay and promotion decisions, and documents improvement or disciplinary steps while preserving a repeatable evaluation cadence for managers and HR.

Why the Semiannual Review Matters

Regular semiannual reviews provide consistent feedback loops, reduce surprises at annual appraisal time, and document performance trends for compliance and workforce planning.

Why the Semiannual Review Matters

Primary Users and Participants

The Performance Semi Annual Review is completed by managers and reviewed with employees to align expectations and record outcomes.

  • HR administrators who maintain personnel files and ensure compliance with internal policies and retention rules.
  • Direct supervisors who provide ratings, examples, and development plans tied to job duties.
  • Employees who complete self-assessments, acknowledge ratings, and agree to follow-up actions or training.

Use the document as a shared record: both manager and employee should sign and keep copies in the personnel file.

Who Can Sign and Approve

HR Manager

HR Managers review final ratings and ensure the document complies with company policy and retention schedules; they may countersign to confirm completion and add to the employee record.

Direct Manager

Direct Managers prepare the review content, provide performance examples, set objectives for the next period, and sign to attest to the accuracy of the assessment and any next steps.
