What the Performer Engagement Contract & Rider Covers

The Performer Engagement Contract & Rider is a combined agreement that defines the engagement terms between a performer and an event presenter and appends a rider that lists technical, hospitality, and production requirements. It sets payment, schedule, cancellation, intellectual property, insurance, and rider-specific obligations so both parties understand performance conditions and on-site needs before the engagement.

Why this agreement matters for both performers and presenters

A clear Performer Engagement Contract & Rider reduces disputes, documents payment and technical obligations, and creates enforceable expectations. Electronic signing is generally valid under the ESIGN Act (15 U.S.C. ch. 96) and UETA where adopted, but specific exceptions and consumer disclosures may apply.

Why this agreement matters for both performers and presenters

  • Failure to attach rider as an incorporated exhibit may allow signers to claim the rider was not part of the agreement.
  • Not specifying governing law or dispute resolution forum creates uncertainty about venue and increases litigation risk.

Contract Breach: Claims for damages or cancellation fees
Insurance Gaps: Uncovered liability exposure
