What the Personal Hair and Makeup Agreement Is

The Personal Hair and Makeup Agreement is a short client-service contract that documents the scope, timing, fees, and responsibilities for professional hair and makeup services provided for a specific event. It identifies the client and stylist, lists services and products to be used, sets payment and cancellation terms, notes health or allergy disclosures, and allocates liability for late arrival or unsatisfactory results. A clear written agreement reduces misunderstandings, supports collection or deposit policies, and provides evidence of consent when a party later disputes charges or performance.

Why a Written Agreement Matters for Services

Use a Personal Hair and Makeup Agreement to set expectations, document payment terms and cancellation policies, capture allergy and consent information, and establish remedies for missed appointments or disputes. It creates a concise record usable in client communications and legal contexts.

Why a Written Agreement Matters for Services

Who Typically Completes This Agreement

Stylists, makeup artists, freelance teams, and clients use the Personal Hair and Makeup Agreement to record services, fees, schedules, and health disclosures before an event.

  • Freelance makeup artists protecting payment and cancellation terms with clients.
  • Bridal parties coordinating schedules, travel time, and artist arrival windows.
  • Event stylists requiring allergy disclosures and model-release consent for photos.

Use the agreement for one-off bookings, multi-day shoots, trials, and group bookings to reduce disputes and clarify expectations.

Representative Signer Profiles

Client — Bride

A client (bride or event attendee) uses the agreement to document desired looks, the timeline for services, payment and deposit terms, and allergy disclosures. Accurate information protects the client and supports refunds or disputes if services are not delivered as agreed.

Artist — Stylist

A professional hair and makeup artist documents services, fee schedule, travel or assistant costs, product usage, and cancellation policy. Clear terms reduce no-shows, support collection of deposits, and define remedies for late cancellations, rescheduling, or last-minute scope changes.

Core Clauses to Include in the Agreement

Essential clauses in a Personal Hair and Makeup Agreement clarify responsibilities, pricing, schedule, health disclosures, intellectual property for images, and remedies for cancellations or no-shows.

Scope of Services

Describe each service (trial, day-of styling, touch-ups), include time estimates, number of people covered, and any products or lash/hair additions included in the fee.

Schedule & Location

Set appointment start times, expected duration, travel or parking requirements, and contingency plans for venue delays or weather-related changes affecting outdoor events.

Fees & Payment

List deposit amount, balance due date, accepted payment methods, late fee policy, and whether tips or sales taxes are included or charged separately.

Cancellation & Reschedule

Define deadlines for full or partial refunds, forfeiture of deposits, rescheduling fees, and notice requirements for client-initiated changes.

Health & Allergies

Require clients to disclose allergies, skin conditions, and current medications; specify if patch tests or physician approval are required prior to services.

Liability & Indemnity

Limit artist liability to service re-performance or partial refund; address damage, delayed arrival, and include photographer/model-release terms if applicable.

Practical Tips for Accurate, Efficient Agreements

Adopt clear language, consistent dates, and standardized fields to minimize disputes and speed contract execution and payments.

Use standardized agreement templates consistently
Maintain a single template that includes all essential clauses, pre-placed signature fields, and conditional sections. Review annually to align with local regulations, tax rules, and evolving business practices to reduce custom drafting time.
Require written allergy and medical disclosures
Ask clients to confirm allergies and recent cosmetic procedures in writing during booking. For sensitive clients, schedule a patch test and document consent to limit liability and guide product selection.
Clarify deposit, balance, and refund terms
State deposit percentages, final payment deadlines, and exact refund calculations for late cancellations. Include who pays sales tax and how tips or service charges are handled to avoid accounting disputes.
Preserve signed copies and audit trails
Store signed agreements in encrypted cloud storage with an audit trail. Retain copies for the recommended period to support disputes, refunds, insurance claims, or tax audits, and ensure access controls for sensitive health data.
