What the Pet Care Dog Addendum Is and When It Applies

The Pet Care Dog Addendum is a written attachment to a primary agreement (lease, boarding contract, daycare agreement) that records specific terms for keeping, caring for, or admitting a dog. It clarifies permitted breeds, size or weight limits, vaccination and licensing requirements, caregiver responsibilities, damage liability, fees and deposits, and permitted locations or hours. The addendum creates a binding contract between the property owner or service provider and the dog owner when signed by all named parties and incorporated into the main agreement by reference.

Why a Pet Care Dog Addendum Matters for Owners and Providers

A clear addendum reduces disputes by documenting responsibilities (vaccines, supervision, cleanup), financial terms (pet deposit, pet rent), and behavior rules (leash, noise, guest access). It helps protect property, limit liability, and ensure consistent animal care.

Why a Pet Care Dog Addendum Matters for Owners and Providers

Who Typically Completes a Pet Care Dog Addendum

Landlords, property managers, boarding or daycare providers, kennels, dog-sitters, and pet owners commonly use this addendum to document dog-specific terms alongside a primary contract.

  • Residential landlords and property managers — establish pet policy, deposits, and remediation steps.
  • Commercial kennels and daycare operators — document vaccination, behavior, and emergency care protocols.
  • Independent dog-sitters or dog-walk services — set insurance, liability, and feeding/medication instructions.

The addendum is signed by the property or service provider and the dog owner; it may also be countersigned by a property manager or authorized company representative.

Step-by-Step: How to Complete the Addendum

Follow these sequential steps to fill, sign, and incorporate the addendum into the primary agreement.

  • 01
    1. Identify Parties: Enter owner and provider legal names.
  • 02
    2. Describe the Dog: Provide breed, weight, and identifying details.
  • 03
    3. Attach Records: Upload vaccination and license proofs.
  • 04
    4. Sign and Date: All parties sign and date the document.
