What the RRSP Payment Authorization Form Is and When it's Used

The RRSP Payment Authorization Form authorizes a payer, financial institution, or employer to deduct or transfer funds to a Canadian Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) on behalf of a participant. Although RRSPs are Canadian retirement accounts, U.S.-based payers, cross-border employers, and financial intermediaries use this form to collect consent for recurring contributions, lump-sum transfers, or one-time debits. The document records payer details, payee account information, authorization period, and cancellation instructions so both parties have a clear audit trail of consent and payment terms.

Why a Clear Payment Authorization Matters

A properly completed RRSP Payment Authorization Form documents consent, reduces disputes over withdrawals or transfers, and supports accurate cross-border tax reporting and bookkeeping.

Why a Clear Payment Authorization Matters

Who Typically Completes the RRSP Payment Authorization Form

The form is used by payers and recipients involved in cross-border payroll, financial institutions handling RRSP deposits, and individuals directing contributions to Canadian retirement accounts.

Use the form when consent, frequent transfers, or a permanent arrangement requires an auditable record of authorization and payment mechanics.
