What the Salvage Act Document Is and when it applies

A Salvage Act Document documents the disposition, transfer, or sale of property that has been declared salvage under applicable state salvage, motor vehicle, or insurance statutes. It records the party claiming salvage rights, the property identification (VIN or serial number where applicable), the nature of the loss, and the disposition terms. The form creates an auditable trail for insurers, purchasers, and state agencies to confirm title status and lien release conditions. Use the document when a vehicle, vessel, or other insured property is formally declared salvage, when title branding is required, or when transferring salvage rights to a buyer, recycler, or insurer.

Why a clear Salvage Act Document matters

A complete Salvage Act Document protects buyers and sellers by making title status and transfer terms explicit, supports insurer claims handling, and helps meet state registration and branding requirements under salvage and title statutes.
