What the Stabling Agreement Form Is and When It Applies

The Stabling Agreement Form is a written contract used to document the terms between a stable operator (barn, facility, or livery) and a horse owner for boarding, care, and related services. Typical content covers the parties' names and contact information, duration and type of boarding (full board, partial board, pasture), agreed fees and billing schedule, feeding and exercise routines, veterinary and farrier responsibilities, emergency care authorization, insurance requirements, liability and indemnity clauses, property access rules, and termination or removal procedures. When properly executed, the form sets clear expectations and preserves enforceable rights under state contract law and applicable electronic signature statutes.

Why a Clear Stabling Agreement Matters

A clear Stabling Agreement reduces disputes, allocates financial and care responsibilities, and documents emergency authority and insurance obligations. It protects both stable operators and owners by creating written evidence of agreed terms that can be enforced under contract law and, when signed electronically, under ESIGN and UETA frameworks.
