What the Storage Facility Survey Form Is

The Storage Facility Survey Form documents physical attributes, security features, unit types and occupancy details for a self-storage property. It standardizes data collection for underwriting, insurance review, property condition assessments, and regulatory filings. Typical entries record facility name and address, unit counts and sizes, climate control status, gate and surveillance systems, fire safety equipment, lease and tenant contact summaries, and any outstanding code or permit issues. Accurate, contemporaneous surveys reduce ambiguity during transactions, claims handling, or compliance reviews and create a single source of truth for stakeholders.

Why a Consistent Survey Form Matters

A standardized Storage Facility Survey Form reduces errors, speeds underwriting and supports insurance claims by ensuring consistent, auditable data collection. It helps compare properties objectively and documents compliance with safety and zoning requirements.

Why a Consistent Survey Form Matters

Who Completes and Uses This Form

Stakeholders collect and review survey data at different stages — complete the form with the intended audience and use case in mind.

  • Property managers and facility owners who verify inventory, safety systems, and tenant counts before renewals or transfers.
  • Underwriters and insurance adjusters assessing risk, coverage limits, and prior loss history for policy issuance or claims.
  • Third-party inspectors and brokers conducting due diligence for sales, financing, or regulatory compliance.

Accurate completion by the appropriate signer reduces follow-up requests and supports faster decision-making across operations, insurance, and sales.

A professional Storage Facility Survey Form groups information into clear sections so reviewers can find critical facts quickly and verify supporting evidence.

Facility Identification

Standardized name, DBA, full street address, legal parcel or APN, and facility ID used in corporate records and insurance schedules.

Unit Inventory

Counts by unit size and type (drive-up, climate-controlled, RV/boat spaces), occupancy percentage, and recent turnover metrics used for revenue and valuation models.

Security & Access

Safety Systems

Fire detection and suppression equipment, extinguisher locations, smoke alarms, and any recent inspection or code violations affecting insurability.

Tenant & Lease Notes

Summary of tenant risk indicators, storage of prohibited items, insurance requirements, and any active disputes or unpaid charges.

Supporting Evidence
