What the Tree Replacement Request Is and When It’s Used

A Tree Replacement Request is a formal document submitted to a municipal department, homeowners association, or property owner to request replacement of a street, park, or yard tree that has been removed, damaged, or found to be dead or hazardous. The form documents the tree location, species, reason for replacement, proposed replacement species or specifications, and the responsible party for planting and ongoing maintenance. Agencies use it to approve species selection, ensure compliance with urban forestry plans, and schedule plantings or inspections.

Why a Clear Tree Replacement Request Matters

A well-prepared request speeds municipal review, helps match approved species to urban canopy goals, and records obligations for planting and maintenance in case of disputes or inspections.

Why a Clear Tree Replacement Request Matters

Who Typically Prepares and Signs This Request

The Tree Replacement Request is completed by property owners, landscape contractors, municipal tree wardens, or HOA representatives depending on local rules.

  • Property owners or tenants submitting a request for a front-yard or boulevard tree replacement; include proof of ownership or authorization.
  • Licensed arborists or contractors preparing species recommendations and planting schedules; include contractor license or company details.
  • Municipal forestry staff or HOA administrators reviewing and approving requests and scheduling plantings under local ordinances.

Knowing the likely preparer helps ensure the correct contact information, authority to act, and supporting documents are attached before submission.

Follow these core steps to prepare, submit, and track your request to avoid rework and delays.

  • 01
Prepare documentation: Collect proof of ownership, photos, and arborist reports.
  • 02

  • 03
Attach supporting files: Add images, permits, or contractor credentials.
  • 04
Submit and monitor: Send to the listed office and track status.
