Best Practices to Reduce Rework and Inspection Delays

Adopt consistent practices to improve approval speed, reduce inspection failures, and maintain defensible records for water line installations.

Use precise location identifiers and drawings
Include site plan with north arrow, scale, property lines, distances to nearby fixed points, and labeled utility stubs. Annotate the exact trench path and reference parcel or plat numbers so reviewers can quickly confirm work location.
Attach supporting technical documents and data
Provide manufacturer data sheets, test certificates, compaction reports, and engineering calculations. Linking these files to the form avoids back-and-forth requests and ensures inspectors can verify material approvals and installation methods during site review.
Verify contractor licensing and insurance coverage
Confirm current state license numbers, insurance limits, and workers' compensation coverage. Attach certificates of insurance and confirm that name on insurance matches contracting entity to prevent coverage denials for liability during excavation.
