What the Water Line Repair Work Order Is

A Water Line Repair Work Order is a written, signed record that authorizes and documents excavation, repair, or replacement of a potable or non-potable water line. It captures the property and job details, scope of work, materials, estimated labor, cost allocations, and acceptance criteria so contractors, utility crews, and property owners share a clear, enforceable instruction for the repair.

Why a Clear Work Order Matters

A precise Water Line Repair Work Order reduces delays, prevents scope disputes, and creates an auditable record for billing and regulatory compliance; it also documents consent and approval for access or excavation.

Why a Clear Work Order Matters

Who Typically Completes and Signs This Work Order

The work order is completed by utility managers, plumbing contractors, property owners, or facilities staff to authorize repairs and allocate responsibility.

  • Municipal Utility Staff: Issue and approve repairs affecting public mains and coordinate permits and inspection requirements.
  • Plumbing Contractors: Complete scope, materials, labor estimates, and schedule; use it as the job authorization.
  • Property Owners / Managers: Provide access, approve costs, and sign acceptance upon completion.

Keep signed copies with project files and share electronic copies with all parties for recordkeeping and invoicing.
