What a Window Treatment Agreement Covers

A Window Treatment Agreement is a written contract between a customer and a supplier or contractor that defines products, measurements, installation services, timelines, payment terms, warranties, and change‑order procedures for blinds, shades, curtains, or other window coverings. It documents who is responsible for on‑site measurements, delivery windows, removal of existing fixtures, disposal, and final inspection. The agreement reduces ambiguity about scope and cost, allocates risk for damage or delays, and creates an enforceable record of rights and obligations for both parties.

Why a Formal Agreement Matters for Window Projects

A clear written agreement protects both customer and installer by setting expectations for scope, timing, payment, warranty, and remedies in case of defects or delays. It provides a definitive basis for resolving disputes and supports insurance or warranty claims.

Why a Formal Agreement Matters for Window Projects

Who Typically Prepares or Signs This Agreement

Parties should ensure the person signing has authority to commit payments and accept on‑site access and that company names match legal entity records.

  • Residential homeowners and tenants arranging custom window coverings for single or multiple rooms.
  • Property managers and landlords contracting upgrades for apartments, offices, or common areas.
  • Professional installers, contractor teams, and retail showrooms documenting scope and liability.

Core Elements to Include in a Professional Agreement

A complete Window Treatment Agreement organizes technical details, financial terms, scheduling, and legal protections so both parties understand responsibilities and recourse.

Parties

Full legal names and business entities for customer and installer, including contact and billing addresses.

Scope of Work

Detailed list of products, finishes, control types, and any preparatory work such as drywall repair or electrical for motorized shades.

Measurements

Who performs measurements, measurement method, and date; state whether site measurements override owner-supplied dimensions.

Pricing & Payment

Itemized pricing, deposit amount, payment milestones, accepted methods, and late payment terms.

Schedule

Lead times for fabrication, tentative installation windows, responsibility for access, and procedures for rescheduling.

Warranty & Remedies

Manufacturer and workmanship warranties, defect reporting period, repair/replacement obligations, and limitation of liability.

Step‑by‑Step: How to Complete and Execute the Agreement

Follow these sequential steps to prepare, review, sign, and archive the Window Treatment Agreement for a smooth installation process.

  • 01
Draft Terms: Populate scope, measurements, price, schedule, and warranty language.
  • 02
Review Details: Verify measurements, product codes, and pricing line items with the customer.
  • 03
Obtain Signatures: Collect all required signatures and dates from authorized parties.
  • 04
Distribute Copies: Provide fully executed copies to customer, installer, and project manager.

How to Configure an Online Completion Workflow

Set up a repeatable digital workflow that assigns fields, routes signers, and captures verification data for each project.

Field Configuration
Signer Order Specify sequential or parallel signing and required signers.
Authentication Method Choose email link, SMS code, or stronger ID verification where required.
Conditional Fields Show payment or deposit fields only when selected in scope.
Attachment Policy Require measurement photos or site access authorizations as attachments.

Where Signed Agreements Should Be Sent or Filed

After execution, route copies to key stakeholders and store a retained contract copy for warranty and dispute purposes.

  • Customer Copy: Email or deliver a signed PDF to the purchaser immediately after signing.
  • Installer Records: Store in company project folder or CRM with tags for job and warranty.
  • Project Manager: Provide the execution package to the on‑site project lead for scheduling.
  • Accounting: Send invoice, deposit receipt, and contract to billing for payment tracking.

Digital Signing and Technical Considerations

Ensure the chosen platform supports retention, export, and download in standard formats and can produce an auditable certificate of completion.

  • File Formats: PDF, DOCX supported
  • Integrations: CRM and cloud storage compatible
  • Authentication: Email, SMS, or advanced ID checks

  • Failing to specify who measures windows, leading to disputes over fit and rework costs.
  • Leaving payment triggers vague, for example 'due on completion' without defining acceptance criteria.
  • Omitting warranty length or repair obligations, which creates confusion on defect remediation responsibility.

Risks of an Incorrect or Incomplete Agreement

Payment Disputes: Delayed or withheld payments
Liability Gaps: Unclear responsibility for damage
Warranty Loss: Void manufacturer coverage
Installation Delays: Schedule conflicts and extra costs
Regulatory Risk: Noncompliance with local ordinances
Contract Voidance: Invalid signatures or missing authority

Practical Examples of How Agreements Are Used

Two concise scenarios showing typical contract outcomes and how clear terms prevent disputes.
