What the Dance Team Employment Contract Covers

A Dance Team Employment Contract is a written agreement between a team employer (school, university, professional organization, or event promoter) and an individual performer or contractor. It defines role and duties, schedule and rehearsal obligations, compensation, benefits, intellectual property and image-rights, discipline and conduct standards, confidentiality, and termination procedures. The contract clarifies classification (employee versus independent contractor), tax and payroll responsibilities, insurance and liability expectations, and any additional attachments such as schedules or code-of-conduct addenda to reduce later disputes.

Why a Clear Contract Matters for Teams and Performers

A written contract reduces ambiguity about pay, schedules, duties, and intellectual property; it lowers the risk of misclassification, wage claims, and disputes, and creates an enforceable record of mutual obligations under state and federal law including ESIGN and UETA where electronic records apply.

Why a Clear Contract Matters for Teams and Performers

Who Typically Prepares and Signs This Agreement

Organizations and individuals who rely on this contract to set expectations and limit liability include employers, team managers, and performers.

  • School athletic and performing arts departments managing student or paid squads, often coordinating with HR and risk offices.
  • Professional and semi‑professional teams or promoters hiring performers for seasons, tours, or single events.
  • Independent choreographers, event producers, and agencies contracting talent for shows and appearances.

Use by the correct parties ensures payroll compliance, proper classification, and enforceability across school, professional, and event settings.
