Student ID:    Grade / Program:    Program Start Date:

Purpose

This Education Expectations Agreement ("Agreement") sets forth the academic, behavioral, attendance, and administrative expectations applicable to the Student named above while enrolled in the Institution's program. The Student (or Parent/Guardian where Student is a minor) and the Institution each acknowledge and agree to the terms and conditions contained herein.

Attendance and Punctuality

The Student shall attend all required classes, activities, and scheduled assessments. Excessive absences or tardiness that impair learning or program objectives may result in remedial actions, loss of credit, or suspension. Absences must be reported in accordance with Institution procedure; failure to timely notify the Institution may be considered unexcused.

Academic Standards and Assessment

The Student is responsible for meeting course objectives and assignment deadlines. The Institution will evaluate progress through exams, projects, and other assessments. Failure to meet published academic standards may trigger remedial plans, academic probation, or dismissal from the program in accordance with Institutional academic policy.

Code of Conduct and Discipline

The Student must comply with the Institution's code of conduct. Prohibited behavior includes but is not limited to verbal or physical harassment, threats, vandalism, theft, possession of illegal substances, and any behavior that endangers others. Disciplinary measures may include warnings, loss of privileges, restitution, suspension, or expulsion depending on the severity of the misconduct.

I acknowledge that I have read and will comply with the Institution's code of conduct and disciplinary procedures.

Academic Honesty

Academic integrity is required. Cheating, plagiarism, falsification of records, or other forms of academic dishonesty are grounds for academic sanction up to and including course failure or dismissal. The Institution will investigate allegations and provide the Student an opportunity to respond prior to final disciplinary action.

I acknowledge the academic honesty expectations and understand potential sanctions for violations.

Technology, Privacy, and Acceptable Use

Use of Institution-provided or personal technology on campus or in program activities is subject to acceptable use rules. The Institution reserves the right to monitor use of its networks and devices where permitted by law. Unauthorized access, distribution of confidential information, or actions that disrupt educational operations are prohibited.

I agree to abide by the Institution's acceptable use and privacy practices for technology and network resources.

Health, Safety, and Emergency Contact

Fees, Tuition, and Financial Obligations

The Student or Responsible Party shall be liable for tuition, fees, and charges assessed by the Institution. Nonpayment may result in withholding of records, enrollment suspension, or other administrative actions in accordance with Institution policy.

Special Accommodations

Students with documented disabilities or special needs should notify the Institution in writing to request reasonable accommodations. Accommodations will be evaluated and provided consistent with documented needs and program requirements.

I have provided documentation for requested accommodations or will provide documentation promptly upon request.

Modification, Termination, and Remedies

The Institution reserves the right to update program requirements, schedules, and related policies. Material changes will be communicated in writing where practicable. Either party may terminate enrollment in accordance with Institution policy. Remedies for breach of this Agreement include administrative action, corrective plans, and disciplinary measures as described herein.

Dispute Resolution and Governing Law

The parties shall attempt to resolve disputes through good faith discussion and, if necessary, non-binding mediation. This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the state in which the Institution is located. Nothing in this Agreement limits the Institution's right to seek injunctive relief where immediate action is necessary to protect safety or educational interests.

Acknowledgements

By signing below, the Student (or Parent/Guardian where applicable) and the Institution Representative acknowledge that they have read, understand, and agree to comply with the expectations, rules, and policies set forth in this Agreement.

I acknowledge receipt of and responsibility to follow the Institution's student handbook and program policies.

What the Education Expectations Agreement Is

An Education Expectations Agreement is a written document that sets out behavioral, academic, and communication expectations between an educational institution and a student or the student's guardian. It typically covers attendance, coursework, conduct, technology use, graded assessments, and the procedures for parent-teacher communication. The agreement clarifies responsibilities, timelines, and consequences so all parties share the same understanding. It can be used for individual students, classroom cohorts, or program-level enrollment and is often executed at enrollment or at program start.

Why a Clear Agreement Matters

A written Education Expectations Agreement reduces misunderstandings, documents consent, and supports consistent enforcement of policies. It provides a reproducible record for administrators and parents, and when executed electronically it meets U.S. e-signature laws such as ESIGN and state UETA statutes where applicable.

Why a Clear Agreement Matters

Who Typically Completes This Agreement

The agreement is used by K–12 schools, districts, private schools, charter programs, and higher-education student services during enrollment or program intake.

  • School administrators and registrars who manage enrollment and recordkeeping
  • Teachers and program coordinators documenting classroom rules and procedures
  • Parents or guardians who must consent to expectations and policies

Use depends on the institution's governance model: districts often require centralized records; private schools may attach the agreement to student files.

Core Sections to Include in a Professional Agreement

Common Preparation Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using inconsistent names or IDs that prevent matching to the student information system
  • Failing to include an effective date, which makes start and notice periods unclear
  • Collecting initials instead of full signatures when the form requires full signature blocks
  • Not preserving an audit trail or signed PDF, which weakens evidence of consent

Risks and Consequences of an Incorrect Agreement

Invalid Consent: May lead to unenforceable policies
Record Mismatch: Can trigger administrative delays
Disciplinary Disputes: Increases likelihood of grievance appeals
FERPA Exposure: Improper disclosures risk compliance issues
Data Loss: Weak storage risks proof unavailability
Legal Challenge: Ambiguities invite litigation or review
