What the Employee School Agreement Is and when it's used

An Employee School Agreement documents the terms under which an employer supports an employee's educational activity or an employee's commitment to attend a school program while employed. It typically clarifies obligations such as tuition assistance, schedule accommodations, repayment or service requirements, leave permissions, confidentiality of coursework, and academic performance expectations. The agreement defines start and end dates, any employer contributions, repayment triggers, and how disputes will be handled. Use this agreement to reduce ambiguity between human resources, the employee, and academic institutions.

Why an Employee School Agreement matters for employers and staff

A clear agreement protects both parties by documenting financial commitments, attendance expectations, and repayment obligations. It reduces disputes, supports compliance with payroll and tax reporting, and clarifies when educational time qualifies as paid work versus unpaid training.
