What an Employment Fixed Term Agreement Is

An Employment Fixed Term Agreement is a written contract that sets a predetermined start date and end date for an employee’s engagement, defining duties, compensation, benefits, and termination conditions for that set period. These agreements allocate rights and responsibilities for both employer and employee, address renewal or nonrenewal mechanics, and often include provisions covering early termination, severance, confidentiality, and return of company property. They are commonly used for project-based work, seasonal roles, temporary assignments, and academic or grant-funded positions where the duration of employment is material to the arrangement.

Why organizations use Fixed Term Employment Agreements

Fixed-term contracts provide legal clarity about duration, obligations, and end-of-term procedures; they reduce ambiguity about notice, renewal, and severance and help match staffing to time-limited funding or project cycles while documenting expectations in a legally enforceable record.

Why organizations use Fixed Term Employment Agreements

  • Small business owners or hiring executives for seasonal or interim roles.
