What the Freelance Makeup Artist Agreement Covers

A Freelance Makeup Artist Agreement is a written contract that sets the business relationship between an independent makeup artist and a client, specifying services, fees, schedules, deliverables, and legal terms. It clarifies whether the artist works as a contractor, the scope of work (trial, event, bridal, editorial), usage rights for photos, cancellation and rescheduling rules, payment schedule, and liability limits. For U.S. engagements the agreement typically addresses tax status, insurance expectations, and governing law so both parties understand obligations and remedies if expectations are not met.

Why a Written Agreement Matters for Freelance Makeup Work

A clear, signed agreement reduces disputes by documenting expectations for services, pricing, scheduling, and intellectual property rights. It protects both the artist’s income and the client’s investment while allocating risk and defining remedies.
